Price Competitiveness Drove Plant-Based Sales Volume Growth Across Four European Markets in 2025
Plant-based food sales volumes grew in four of six major European markets in 2025, driven by narrowing price gaps with animal-based equivalents, according to a new analysis by the Good Food Institute Europe (GFI Europe) based on Circana and NIQ Homescan data. France, Germany, Italy, and Spain all recorded volume growth, while the Netherlands and the UK saw slight declines.

First-in-Human Trial Reports Promising Dual Lassa–Rabies Vaccine Data
Researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health (CVD) reported encouraging interim results from an early clinical trial that tested a new dual vaccine against Lassa fever and rabies. The study found the vaccine to be safe and induced immune responses against both the Lassa fever and rabies viruses (RB). There are currently no vaccines against Lassa fever on the market.

Boehringer/Zealand obesity drug delivers Phase III weight loss, but side effects raise questions
In the Phase III Synchronize-1 trial, adults with obesity or overweight without type 2 diabetes treated with survodutide lost up to 16.6% of body weight after 76 weeks, compared with 3.2% in the placebo group. Boehringer also reported reductions of up to 34% in visceral fat, the fat surrounding internal organs, compared with 12% for placebo. The company said weight loss was mainly driven by reductions in fat mass, with no more than 10.8% of total tissue-mass change coming from lean tissue at the highest dose.
