A survey of 2,200 US adults conducted by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) and Morning Consult has found significant gaps in public understanding of how diet affects blood cholesterol, with large numbers incorrectly identifying animal-based foods as protective against hyperlipidemia.

The city council of Caltanissetta, in Sicily, has voted to formally support the Plant Based Treaty, becoming the first local authority in Italy to do so. The motion passed on May 28, 2026, with 13 votes in favor and one against.

San Francisco-based philanthropic funder Coefficient Giving has launched a Request for Proposals (RFP) through its Farm Animal Welfare Fund, offering up to $10 million for research and development projects targeting the sensory shortcomings of alternative proteins. Applications are open until August 10, 2026, with awards to be announced on a rolling basis and no later than November 30.

Plant-based food sales volumes grew in four of six major European markets in 2025, driven by narrowing price gaps with animal-based equivalents, according to a new analysis by the Good Food Institute Europe (GFI Europe) based on Circana and NIQ Homescan data. France, Germany, Italy, and Spain all recorded volume growth, while the Netherlands and the UK saw slight declines.
