Croda targets premium longevity skin care with botanical active

Croda has unveiled Malvallin, a botanical active designed to address growing resilience, health, and longevity demands in premium skin care. The launch deepens Croda’s foothold in this market and is aligned with skin longevity trends, which aim to provide preventative care rather than retroactive treatment of visible aging.

Malvallin is informed by the ingredients company’s research and innovations in the botanical field, merging plant-derived technologies, skin science, sourcing, and formulation. The ingredient combines modern skin biology with natural botanicals to encourage firmness, moisture, elasticity, and facial volume.

Sourced from Chinese mallow fruit, Malvallin is 100% naturally derived according to ISO16128 standards, and applies across various layers of the skin to stimulate its natural renewal cycle. It is said to be science-backed and is supported by laboratory and clinical testing.

“Consumers are increasingly looking for products that help maintain healthy skin over the long term, creating opportunities for brands to move beyond traditional anti-aging approaches,” says Sandra Breene, president of Consumer Care at Croda.

“Malvallin is a clear example of how the combination of technology, naturally-derived ingredients, and clinically proven efficacy can help customers respond to evolving consumer expectations while supporting premium product positioning.”

Malvallin is teed up to help customers address multiple dominant personal care trends. The natural derivation of the ingredients combined with their scientific backing aligns with demands for efficacious and clean formulations. The ingredient boasts sustainability qualifications, including COSMOS approval, vegan compliance, RSPO, and halal certifications.

With its applications across multiple layers of the skin — the hypodermis, dermis, and epidermis — Malvallin is compatible for use in multifunctional formulations with “skinimalism” claims. Additionally, the prevention-focused applications of the ingredient align with millennial and Gen Z demand for skin health and well-being.

Croda reports that clinical testing demonstrated observable improvements in hydration, redness, skin texture, and cheek volume after 28 days. The studies also utilized advanced 3D imaging and eye-tracking methodology, indicating improved perceived attractiveness.

“Rather than simply targeting visible signs of aging, we designed Malvallin to help maintain the skin’s natural structure, supporting volume, firmness, and resilience over time,” says Frédéric de Baene, R&D director at Croda Beauty Actives.

“What differentiates this ingredient is the depth of evidence behind it. We have validated its performance through biological, clinical, and consumer-perception studies, providing customers with strong scientific support for product claims,” he concludes.
