German vegan pet food brand Vegan4Dogs has added a new product to its supplement lineup: Rudolf DHA Algae Bites, a dry, heart-shaped snack designed to deliver concentrated omega-3 fatty acids to dogs without the use of fish or krill oil.
A snack format for omega-3 supplementation
The product delivers a concentrated dose of DHA sourced from the microalgae Schizochytrium sp., alongside DPA and EPA. The inclusion of DPA is notable because the fatty acid functions as a flexible omega-3 reserve in the body and supports the efficient uptake of DHA. The recipe also incorporates Chlorella, which the brand says contributes minerals and antioxidants that support skin barrier function.
The format itself distinguishes Rudolf from most omega-3 supplements on the market, which are typically oil-based. Vegan4Dogs says the dry snack format allows for easier administration during training or travel, without the mess associated with liquid oils. The product joins Curly, the brand’s existing algae-based DHA oil, as a complementary option in its supplement range.

Science behind the formulation
Vegan4Dogs points to research by J.E. Bauer, published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association in 2007, as part of the scientific basis for the product. That study examined dogs’ responses to dietary omega-3 fatty acids, with puppy research indicating a correlation between targeted DHA intake and improved results in learning and memory tests.
“With Rudolf, we have translated the functionality of a high-end supplement into the form of a treat. It is the answer to the demand for a straightforward, scientifically grounded omega-3 supply that protects fish communities,” said Leni Lecker of Vegan4Dogs.
Packaging without plastic
The product is packaged in a monomaterial paper solution that the brand says contains no hidden plastic barriers or aluminum composite films, making it recyclable through standard paper waste streams. The 100g pouch is available now via the Vegan4Dogs online shop.
