21 October 2026, Barcelona: SAS Group (Sustainable Agrobio Solutions Worldwide) has acquired a majority stake in South African company Afrikelp, expanding its portfolio of seaweed-based biostimulants.
Afrikelp specialises in the harvesting, research, production and distribution of seaweed- and plant-based biostimulants. The company has more than 50 years of experience and operates in 55 markets worldwide.

The acquisition is part of SAS Group’s expansion strategy, which began five years ago with the entry of Stirling Square Capital Partners. The group subsequently acquired Biovert in 2023, Pevesa Agroscience in 2024, Aqua do Brasil and Codiagro in 2025, and Ceres Biotics in 2026.
SAS Group CEO Xavier Mitjavila Moix said the acquisition supports the group’s strategy to build a global agricultural biosolutions business. He cited Afrikelp’s expertise in seaweed research, proprietary extraction technology, access to Ecklonia maxima and international customer base as factors in the deal.
