August 2026, Bangkok: FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met today with H.E Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives of the Kingdom of Thailand, during the Director-General’s mission in Thailand.
The Minister welcomed the Director-General and expressed appreciation for the Director-General’s participation in the ceremony in honour and commemoration of the royal benevolence of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother of Thailand. The Minister thanked FAO for its strong technical support and highlighted the country’s commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture, food security, soil and water management, and leveraging inclusive science, innovation and technology for sustainable agrifood systems.
The Director-General conveyed his appreciation for the longstanding and close collaboration between Thailand and FAO, including hosting the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific for more than 70 years. The Director-General emphasized the important contributions of the Thai Royal Family to agricultural and rural development in the country, and encouraged Thailand to share further its valuable knowledge and expertise, including through South-South and Triangular Cooperation to support the transformation of agrifood systems in the region, and beyond.
The pair also discussed opportunities for enhanced collaboration on sustainable agriculture, soil health, the FAO Global Partnership Programme for Transboundary Animal Diseases (GPP-TAD), and the holistic One Health approach for the interlinked health of people, animals, plants and the environment. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to continue working together to support agrifood systems transformation and sustainable development.
