MALK and Coconut Cult Launch Co-Branded Vanilla Coconut Yogurt at Whole Foods

Plant-based milk brand MALK Organics and probiotic yogurt maker The Coconut Cult have released a jointly developed product, the Vanilla MALK Shake, a fermented coconut yogurt reaching Whole Foods Market shelves on July 7.

The product pairs The Coconut Cult’s fermented coconut yogurt base with MALK’s Organic Unsweetened Coconut Milk, and is formulated with the flavor of a vanilla milkshake. Its ingredient list includes organic coconut cream, organic coconut nectar, organic vanilla bean powder, and MALK’s coconut milk base, which combines filtered water, organic coconut milk, organic evaporated coconut water, and Himalayan pink salt. The recipe contains no gums, fillers, or artificial ingredients, and each batch carries the custom probiotic cultures both brands emphasize in their positioning.

A high-density probiotic blend made in-house

The Coconut Cult produces its yogurts using a proprietary 16-strain probiotic blend developed in-house, including strains such as L. helveticus, L. rhamnosus, L. plantarum, and B. longum. The company manufactures its products at its own facility in Ogden, Utah, rather than using co-packers, a decision it has attributed to the difficulty of producing live-culture yogurt at scale. It reports 50 billion CFU of probiotics per ounce in its core products, a density that positions it well above conventional yogurt brands.

Two clean-label brands with overlapping retail footprints

The collaboration brings together two companies that already share shelf space in the natural channel. Both MALK and The Coconut Cult distribute through Whole Foods and Sprouts nationally, and both build their marketing around minimal, recognizable ingredient lists free from gums and additives. MALK, based in Texas, expanded its portfolio earlier this year to include coconut, soy, and cashew milks alongside its almond and oat lines, and moved into coconut-based creamers. The Coconut Cult, founded in 2016 and led by CEO Ari Raz, has been scaling distribution over the past year, including a recent entry into Target with a smaller, lower-priced format.
