Fermentation, Edible Packaging and Plant-Forward Products Lead THAIFEX Anuga Asia Innovation Contest

THAIFEX Anuga Asia opens today in Bangkok, running 26 to 30 May 2026 at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani. Now spanning 12 halls and more than 140,000 square metres, the show brings together some 3,500-plus exhibitors from 56 countries across five days.

This year’s tasteInnovation Show, which selects ten winners and 50 finalists judged on originality and commercial viability, points toward fermentation, functional ingredients, and sustainable formats as the dominant development themes across the field.

Fermentation takes the lead

Two fermentation-derived entries stand out from a food technology perspective. Rossukon Fermented Rice Vinegar, by Thai company K.P. Krarunpetch Limited Partnership, is described as Thailand’s first fermented rice vinegar developed via a proprietary rapid fermentation process. Cocoimmu, developed by BIST INNO REFORM CO., LTD. from coconut water and Cordyceps, represents the bioactive ingredient end of the category. A third fermentation-adjacent winner, Sukishi Thai Mango Kimchi by Sukishi Intergroup Co., Ltd., applies Korean fermentation technique to Thai mango.

Fermentation has become increasingly central to the alternative ingredient space globally, with companies across Europe and Asia developing platforms for lipids, mycoprotein, and functional ingredients beyond protein.

Plant-forward and packaging entries

The plant-forward entry comes from Vietnamese group Vinh Hoan Corporation, whose subsidiary Sa Giang, a noodle and dried foods producer based in Dong Thap province with roots going back to 1960, enters a Moringa Noodles Salad, positioning moringa for its micronutrient density in a convenience format.

On packaging, the Mister Cone Edible Wafer Cup by K.C.L. Trading Co., Ltd. presents an edible alternative to single-use plastic cups, a format that has attracted interest across the industry, though wide-scale commercial uptake remains limited.

Programming and new features

A new Hall 4 brings together the tasteInnovation winners, a New-to-Market Street for products launched within the past 12 months, and a Startup Showcase. The Future Food Experience+ Stage will cover precision fermentation, AI-driven food production, and supply chain sustainability, with speakers from Innova Market Insights, Euromonitor, and the European Commission. The EU joins as Official Partner Region for the first time, with a dedicated pavilion connecting European suppliers with Southeast Asian buyers.
