  • The acquisition includes FMC India’s crop protection portfolio, licensing rights for FMC brands in India, and access to selected future crop protection technologies.
  • FMC said the transaction will support debt reduction and allow the company to adopt a new market strategy while maintaining its manufacturing and research presence in India.
  • Industry analysts say the deal reflects growing consolidation in the agrochemical sector as companies compete to expand farmer access to crop protection products, biologicals, and advanced agricultural technologies.

FMC Corporation has agreed to sell its India crop protection commercial business to Crystal Crop Protection for $252 million, marking one of the biggest recent deals in India’s agrochemical sector as companies reposition to compete in a rapidly changing agricultural input market.

The agreement, announced on May 7, includes FMC India’s crop protection operations, licensing rights to FMC brands sold in India, preferred supply arrangements for selected products, and access to FMC’s future crop protection pipeline in the Indian market.

The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions and is expected to close before the end of 2026.

The deal comes as global agrochemical companies increasingly restructure operations to focus on higher-growth regions, reduce debt, and strengthen positions in biologicals, precision agriculture, and advanced crop protection technologies.

FMC said proceeds from the sale will be used primarily for debt reduction while allowing the company to adopt a different go-to-market strategy in India.

For Crystal Crop Protection, the acquisition significantly expands its footprint in one of the world’s largest agricultural markets.

India’s crop protection industry has seen growing demand for herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides as farmers seek to improve yields amid climate pressure, pest outbreaks, and shrinking arable land.

Pierre Brondeau, chairman and chief executive officer of FMC, said Crystal Crop is “well-positioned” to continue supplying Indian farmers with FMC technologies while FMC maintains its research and manufacturing presence in the country.

Crystal Crop Protection Chairman Ankur Aggarwal said the acquisition would help accelerate innovation across chemical and biological crop protection products and expand farmer access to new agricultural technologies.

Industry analysts say the acquisition reflects broader consolidation across the agrochemical sector, where companies are increasingly seeking scale, product diversification, and stronger distribution networks as competition intensifies globally.

India has become a strategic battleground because of its large farming population, expanding food demand, and growing adoption of modern agricultural inputs.
