Private biotech funding rounds in April 2026

First, let’s take a look at the private biotech investments in April 2026, breaking them down by value, location, funding type, and therapeutic subsector.

Biggest private biotech funding rounds by value

April 2026 saw Beeline Medicines debut with a very impressive $300 million in series A funding to develop and deliver “category-leading” precision therapies to transform the lives of people with autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Originally formed in July 2025, the company’s initial portfolio consists of five programs in-licensed from Bristol Myers Squibb. The lead asset from this is afimetoran, a small molecule equipotent TLR7/8 inhibitor with the potential to be a best-in-disease oral therapy for lupus.

Meanwhile, Syneron Bio achieved second place in last month’s private fundraising rankings, bagging a $150 million series B financing. The Chinese biotech said that the proceeds will primarily be used to further advance the evolution of its macrocyclic peptide discovery platform, Synova, and to accelerate the progression of its pipeline into clinical development.

In third place, Sidewinder Therapeutics brought home $137 million in series B funding to progress precision bispecific antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) for the treatment of cancer. The company expects to advance its lead program into clinical development in 2027.

Private biotech funding rounds by location

Last month, North American companies attracted the most rounds, with 12, and brought in the largest amount of money, raising $1.217 billion in total. It was then fairly close between Europe and Asia-Pacific; despite both regions attracting three rounds each, Asia-Pacific edged it in terms of the total amount raised, with $310 million compared to Europe’s $206 million.

Private biotech funding rounds by funding type

When looking at last month’s private biotech fundraising by funding type, we can see that series A rounds came out on top, with six rounds in total, bringing in $676 million. Meanwhile, series B rounds weren’t too far behind, with four rounds and $512 million raised from those rounds.

Private biotech funding rounds by therapeutic subsector

In April 2026, oncology-focused companies dominated the fundraising landscape, with eight rounds in total and $671.4 million raised. In second place, the immunological disease therapeutic subsector lagged far behind in terms of the number of rounds, with only two; however, it wasn’t too far behind in terms of the total amount raised, as immunology-focused companies managed to attract $425 million in funding.

Public biotech funding rounds in April 2026

Now, let’s check out the public biotech fundraising rounds that occurred in April 2026, breaking them down by value and therapeutic subsector.

Public biotech funding by value

Already known for bringing in huge private fundraising rounds, Kailera Therapeutics continued that trend as it went public, pricing an incredible $625 million initial public offering (IPO) last month. The company is advancing a pipeline of next-generation obesity treatments.

In second place was Nektar Therapeutics, which priced a $325 million public offering as it works on developing treatments that address the underlying immunological dysfunction in autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases, and, in third spot, was Hemab Therapeutics, which priced a $301.5 million IPO to fund therapies that it says “reimagine” the treatment of blood coagulation disorders.

Public biotech funding by therapeutic subsector

While oncology narrowly attracted the most rounds last month, with two in total, it didn’t attract the largest amount of money; metabolic diseases, hematological disorders, immunological diseases, neurological diseases, and respiratory diseases all brought in more money despite having only one round each. Naturally, Kailera’s huge $625 million IPO round meant that metabolic diseases was the therapeutic subsector that brought in the most money.

Month-to-month comparison of biotech fundraising

Below is a graph showing a month-to-month comparison of private and public biotech fundraising, looking at the total amount of money raised per month in 2026.

Public fundraising was back on track in April 2026 after a disappointing total in March compared to previous months. Last month, public companies brought home a total of $2.447 billion – just under February’s total of $3.273 billion but more than January’s total of $1.670 billion. Meanwhile, private fundraising also had a steady month, bringing in a total of $1.733 billion.
