World Food Safety Day / Japan Association Conducts Lecture And Workshop On Food Safety Management

May 2026, US: As part of activities related to World Food Safety Day, Japan Food Safety Management Association (JFSM) conducted a lecture and workshop at Visayas State University in the Philippines. The programme was organized by the ASEAN FOOD Industries Human Resource Development Association (AFH) as a special endowment lecture.

On 22 April 2026, JFSM Chairperson, Masanori Kotani, delivered a lecture titled “Enhance Food Integrity: Food Safety and Social Responsibilities through Food Chains.” The lecture introduced Japan’s approaches to good management practices (GMP), the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points system (HACCP) and Food Safety Management (FSM), as well as the importance of continuous improvement, the “5S” food manufacturing method that originated in Japan, the Japanese concept in business studies known as “Kaizen”, and food safety culture.

JFSM also conducted a workshop titled “Visualizing Risks at the Workplace and Improving Food Safety Culture.” The workshop was based on the concepts presented in the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) Food Safety Culture Position Paper (2026 edition), published in March 2026. Participants analyzed food safety risks using real-life food production scenarios and discussed practical actions to enhance Kaizen activities and strengthen food safety culture at production sites.
