Austrian food tech company Revo Foods is expanding beyond seafood-style products with the launch of EL POLLO, a mycoprotein-based chicken alternative rolling out this month in supermarkets across Austria, Germany, and Italy.
The product is made from fermented mycoprotein (Fusarium venenatum), fava bean protein, canola oil, and bamboo fiber, with a short ingredient list of seven items. It carries a Nutri-Score A, is gluten-free and cholesterol-free, and is available in three variants: Original, Asian Fusion, and BBQ Style. Each 150g pack is high in protein and fiber.
Taking mycoprotein into the poultry aisle
“Chicken is the most-eaten meat in the world, and the plant-based versions can be a bit bland. We experimented a lot with our texturizing process, and believe we found a new way to make the product more juicy and fibrous than ever before,” the company wrote in its launch announcement.

New product, familiar technology
The launch follows a string of product introductions over the past year. EL BLANCO, a black cod-style fillet, and THE KRAKEN, a mycoprotein octopus alternative that sold out on pre-order, were both part of a rapid product expansion following the 2024 opening of the company’s Taste Factory in Vienna, which Revo describes as the world’s first industrial-scale facility for mycoprotein-based 3D food production.
EL POLLO will be available in Austrian and German supermarkets, as well as in Italy, alongside the company’s existing webshop. Revo Foods’ products are currently stocked by major European retailers, including EDEKA, REWE, BILLA, and SPAR.
