Private biotech funding rounds in July 2026
First, let’s take a look at the private biotech investments in July 2026, breaking them down by value, location, funding type, and therapeutic subsector.
Biggest private biotech funding rounds by value
July 2026 saw Chai Discovery and MeiraGTx come joint first in the private biotech funding rankings after both companies raised $400 million. Chai Discovery’s round meant that the artificial intelligence (AI) company is now valued at $3.8 billion, and it will use the proceeds to continue progressing its AI models to discover new molecules. Meanwhile, MeiraGTx entered into an agreement with Oberland Capital for an investment that included up to $375 million in non-dilutive capital for capped royalty payments on certain products and up to $25 million in equity.
AdvanCell and Celea Therapeutics then followed in second and third place, respectively. AdvanCell, which is developing targeted alpha therapies for cancer, raised $315 million in series D financing and will use the cash injection to advance its metastatic prostate cancer drug ADVC001 toward phase 3 of development, expand its vertically integrated radiopharmaceutical platform and manufacturing infrastructure, and accelerate its pipeline. Celea Therapeutics, meanwhile, announced a $180 million financing that will support the planned early Q3 2026 initiation of a phase 3 trial of deupirfenidone (LYT-100), an investigational next-generation antifibrotic that the company says has the potential to serve as a new standard of care for people living with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Private biotech funding rounds by location
North American companies had another successful month in July 2026, bringing in a total of $1.68 billion from just eight rounds; this was largely thanks to Chai Discovery and MeiraGTx’s $400 million raises. European companies then came second in the standings, lagging far behind with only $123.2 million raised from three rounds, and Asia-Pacific came a close third, raising $107 million from two rounds.
Private biotech funding rounds by funding type
Last month, series B rounds were the most popular type of funding round, with four taking place. However, it was series C rounds – of which three took place – that brought in the most money, with $507.7 million raised in total.
Private biotech funding rounds by therapeutic subsector
When looking at the private biotech fundraising standings based on therapeutic subsector, we can see that it was an extremely close race between oncology and AI; oncology companies raised $452.4 million, while AI companies raised $452 million. Oncology players also just edged it in terms of the number of rounds, attracting three in total, with AI players attracting two.
Public biotech funding rounds in July 2026
Now, let’s check out the public biotech fundraising rounds that occurred in July 2026, breaking them down by value and therapeutic subsector.
Public biotech funding by value
BridgeBio dominated the public biotech standings last month, receiving $1 billion in convertible preferred equity from Sixth Street and HealthCare Royalty. The financing comes at a pivotal moment for the company, as it prepares for three potential blockbuster U.S. product launches over the next 12 months. Meanwhile, its already approved product Attruby continues to grow into a multi-billion-dollar blockbuster drug.
Cancer company Erasca came second in the standings after pricing a $550 million public offering to fund the research and development (R&D) of its product candidates and other development programs, while Avere Therapeutics came third, attracting a $320 million private placement as it announced a merger with NextCure, which will bring together Avere’s oral peptide interleukin-23 (IL-23) receptor antagonist for psoriasis with NextCure’s public market infrastructure.
Public biotech funding by therapeutic subsector
Last month, both oncology and inflammatory diseases attracted the most rounds, with two each; however, oncology players won the battle in terms of the amount raised, bringing in $750 million compared to the $598 million brought home by inflammatory disease companies. Ultimately, though, it was genetic disorders that came out on top overall, thanks to BridgeBio’s $1 billion raise.
Month-to-month comparison of biotech fundraising
Below is a graph showing a month-to-month comparison of private and public biotech fundraising, looking at the total amount of money raised per month in 2026.
Despite the usual summertime lull in the number of funding rounds, both public and private companies still managed to raise a significant amount of money, with private fundraising coming in at $1.910 billion and public fundraising coming in at $2.968 billion. In fact, public fundraising had its second-best month of the year so far, just behind its February total.
