Novonesis Signs Deal to Manufacture TurtleTree’s Precision-Fermented Lactoferrin（2026 年 7 月 1 日五行穿衣指南）

Danish biosolutions group Novonesis has signed an agreement with Singapore-based TurtleTree to scale, manufacture and commercialize the latter’s precision-fermented lactoferrin ingredient, LF+®. Novonesis is also making a minor investment in TurtleTree, joined by 321Catalyst Ventures, the corporate venture arm of Mitsui Chemicals.

Under the deal, Novonesis will exclusively handle scaling, manufacturing and commercialization of LF+® for the early life nutrition market, with selected commercial rights extending to dietary supplements. Copenhagen-headquartered Novonesis was formed in January 2024 through the merger of Novozymes and Chr. Hansen and describes the agreement as complementary to its existing Human Health Biosolutions portfolio, which includes human milk oligosaccharides, probiotics and synbiotics.

Addressing a supply-constrained ingredient

Lactoferrin is an iron-binding protein found in milk, valued for its role in immunity, iron regulation and gut health, particularly for women and infants. Conventional extraction requires large volumes of milk, which according to the companies limits supply and drives up cost. TurtleTree, founded in 2019 by Fengru Lin and Max Rye, produces LF+® through precision fermentation and became the first company globally to receive a “No Objection Letter” from the US FDA under GRAS for a precision-fermented lactoferrin. The ingredient also secured vegan certification from Vegan Action and has since been used in commercial launches with Cadence Performance Coffee and Strive Nutrition.

Manufacturing capacity paired with a fermentation platform

The arrangement pairs TurtleTree’s fermentation technology with Novonesis’s existing manufacturing and commercial infrastructure, an approach the companies frame as addressing cost and supply consistency at scale rather than technical feasibility alone.
